Native res, Nokia Booklet 3G and Linux
So Nokia, or their contractor, did not fill the BIOS mode table too carefully, forgot the native resolution of 1280×720 pixels.
The Poulsbo X.org / Linux driver is still a bloody mess. Thus for using the VESA driver with the native resolution we need to get it somehow into the BIOS. Turned out the BIOS and mode-setting is so Intel i810′ish that adding GMA500 / Poulsbo support to 915resolution was easy :-)
915resolution 49 1280 720 16
915resolution 58 1280 720 32
Give the similarities for the RAMDAC / CRT / other pipe control and the i810, it might be easy to get GMA500 mode setting and external output control into the regular Intel driver. Of course without acceleration, which given the PowerVR IP core will be 100% different. But native mode-setting, including external output control might be a nice start for a non-messy X.org / Linux driver.

Hi René,
I got informed by Nokia that they don’t intend to support the Booklet in regard to drivers. I formated it to install Windows 7 Pro and therefore don’t have the Nokia drivers which came with it (flight-mode, hd shock protection, volumecontrol etc.) anymore. Can you extract these drivers from the image you took?
Thanks a lot

I only spotted the regular drivers (3G, GPS, HD audio, etc.) in the c:/Program files/ directory. Personally I did not (yet) care about this “flight-mode” or HD shock control. The “volume control” would be nice, though, indeed :-) I’ll have to check if I can find them. But I think there are no installers left in the image for those, maybe some pre-installed DLLs in c:/Windows/… whereeve?

Thanks for looking. Nokia also has a special ACPI driver which is missing from my system now (driverless device shown in the device manager). My HD is clicking a lot when it parks the head. Maybe that driver would help.
Can you please find out what the Bluetooth driver (the one from CSR) is called. I remember it was version 5.something. I’ll try to find at least that one on the net.
Unbelievable weak support by Nokia. Nokia is probably the only PC manufacturer that doesn’t support drivers for its own products.

Sorry, I was busy with work and testing my Booklet thoroughly (it shows some “glitches”), I can not agree more that the Nokia support for the Booklet is sub-standard: http://rene.rebe.name/2009-11-06/hardware-error-miscompares-on-nokia-booklet-3g/
This is my first Nokia product purchased, so I have no idea if they always have such unreasonable support, …
